Mama Bird Diaper Patten

Years ago, when baby #3 was new, I developed a cloth diaper pattern that had all of the features of the fancy boutique diapers but could be sewn at home on a budget. Well, after putting all that work into I just couldn't keep it to myself and my in-real-life friends, could I? So, I put together a website hosted by Geocities in a free account and shared my pattern for all the internet to use. Between emails I've received personally and from lurking a bit on cloth diaper sewing forums, it seems I have blessed many a family by doing this. I am thankful for that.

However, it is time for a change. Ceocities is closing it's operation in October and my website will be gone. I have never made enough on the pattern to pay for even the most inexpensive website, and with Geocities I had constant bandwidth issues. In addition, since my family has moved beyond the need for diapers, I find myself feeling less inclined to spend time and effort maintaining the pattern site and answer questions about it for free.

So, as of today I will be offering my diaper pattern for sale for the cost of $2. I still want to keep my pattern very affordable and available to the public, but at this time in my life I need to make a tiny profit on it to keep myself motivated to offer the support I should be offering.

If you are interested in purchasing my unique diaper pattern, with detailed instructions including numerous photographs, please PayPal me $2 at robine_30@msn.com and I will email the pattern and instructions to you. I have been told my instructions are more detailed and better to understand than much more expensive ones available on the market. For the low cost of $2 you get the patterns for three sizes that will fit babies from newborn through toddlers and the in depth instructions for making All-In-One diapers, Fitted diapers, and Pocket Diapers. In addition, you'll receive information about fabric and notions choices and scattered throughout are tips and methods that can be applied to all sewing.

Edited to add: I have been told that people are having trouble when trying to copy and paste my email address into PayPal. If you experience this, try typing it in instead.

Here are some photos of diapers made from my pattern. Some I made and others people emailed to me.

What level of sewing skill is necessary to sew your diapers? I love the idea of making my own, but my skills are pretty limited :)

Robin E. said...

Aishah, hopefully you will see this answer. I would usually email you directly, or at least post on your blog, but you didn't leave either address with me in your comment.

My pattern is extremely detailed and contains many, many photographs to show you each step of the way. I have been told by beginners at sewing that they were able to do fine with it. I would recommend someone such as you to start with the Fitted Diaper instructions, as they are the easiest, before tackling the All-In-One pattern.

I ordered a pattern last night and sent payment via Paypal, but have not yet recieved the emailed pattern. I was under the understanding that it was emailed, not mailed. My email is bdann @ twcny . rr.com. (No spaces, I put them in to keep spam out.) I am anxious to get the pattern and get started. Thanks. Brenda Dann

Brenda,
Your pattern has been emailed to you as of a moment ago.

Your PayPal payment came in after the last time I checked my email last evening. I didn't know about the payment until I checked my email this morning, and I did so before 9 am. I do not have an automatic system; I must manual attach and send the pattern to each person as the payment comes in.

Please, everyone that reads this, understand that I am not some fancy busy-woman. I don't even consider my little diaper pattern selling to be a real Work-At-Home-Mom business. I am a homeschooling mom of 5.

Thanks so much for getting back to me. I see the patterns are now here and they look to be very detailed. Thanks so much for the rapid response and have a great day!

I like the look of your pattern, it doesn't seem as bulky as some of the others. I am interested in making AIO and was wondering your supply list. I want as pattern with a hidden pul layer and just wanted to make sure I could do that with your pattern.

Hi, I was wondering how much it typically cost you to make these diapers from your pattern per diaper? Is it really worth the time? Where do you find the materials? Any info would be much appreciated!
Thanks!

Hi there,
I'm in the midst of making one of your diapers and I'm having a little trouble with snap placement. I wondered if you could help me? For the front flaps, there are 6 snap markings on each side, and two of them have an "x" through them and are really close to the ones next to them. Could you tell me what this means?

Thanks so much!
Alissa

Hi Robin,
Thanks so much for leaving a comment on my blog. I replied to it but thought I'd come over here and say thank you as well. Also, I have several pictures on my blog of diapers I've made using your pattern, and you are more than welcome to use them if you'd like. My sewing is far from perfect, but I think it's a testament to the fact that your pattern is so well-done that any amateur home-sewist can make these. :)
Thanks again and take care,
Alissa

When I first decided to use cloth diapers, my mom suggested that I make them myself to save money. She did all the research and ended up presenting me with a copy of your patterns and all the information that comes with them. Thank you so much for sharing your hard work with the rest of us mamas! The pattern was so easy to make that I had 30 of them finished in less than a week, including the snaps. I also made some diapers from another pattern, but they were much more complex and worked not nearly as well as yours. Not only does the memory of sewing the diapers make me smile every time I change my baby's diaper, I also feel a sense of gratitude for you and your generosity! This may sound strange, but thanks for making cloth diapering a pleasure!

Can your pattern be used to make a diaper cover out of PUL that I can put over a prefold?

Stephanie said...

Also...can you make this with snaps rather than with Aplix?

Robin E. said...

Stephanie, I'm sorry to answer here, but you comment doesn't contain an email or other contact information.

Yes, my pattern can be used with snaps or Aplix. Yes, my pattern can be used to make a PUL diaper cover to use over prefold diapers, but the instructions to do this are not included. I just know others have done it in the past.

Hi there,
I'm sorry to post this here but I've been trying to unsubscribe to this thread (due to multiple spam messages) but for some reason it won't unsubscribe me. Not sure if there's a way to do it from your end?
Thanks!

Robin E. said...

Alissa, as far as I can tell I cannot unsubscribe you from my end. I think it is something you can do through your Blogger profile.

I am sorry for the spam; I try to delete it within a day but I suppose it doesn't stop it from appearing to those that are subscribed. I have set my comments to require a word verification before posting. I hope that helps some.

Robin,
Thanks, the unsubscribe feature doesn't seem to be working but I'll see if I can do it through Blogger.
