Have your kids give it a try too. This is a great introduction to how bad reasoning can sound good. I'm not going to give the solution. I think there is a huge benefit to be found from struggling through this to figure it out. Besides, if you google "missing dollar" you'll find solutions for similar problems that will make this one clear as well.
